Broken

He limped in and walked out straight after the power of God healed his knee! His buddy had a horrible car accident when he was sixteen years old and driving illegally; five passengers died and the driver “broke almost every bone in my body”. Now, with extensive “metal plates and screws” throughout his body, a history of military service, PTSD, and the breakup of his family (where he lost his wife and little girl), he was suicidal. He described pointing the gun to his head with lethal intent but “felt like something peeled my finger from the gun”. (1)

He spent two weeks in a mental institution in Livingston; two months later he met someone from the VOH outreach team where he connected with the healing he needed. He was invited to church, he came, and the journey of transformational change has begun. Physical healings have manifested which includes the healing of chronic jaw pain; but most importantly, hope is springing up on the inside and a healing process has begun. For this person and so many others at the Voice of Healing, this verse has come to life.

“Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ ”.

1 Thessalonians 5:23

This is the divine order that brings about the deeper, inner healing of “spirit, soul, and body” and it matches the pattern of the Scriptures. When Miriam and Aaron rebelled against Moses, the spirit of jealousy manifested leprosy in her body; Moses pleaded to God, “heal her now” (ref Num 12:13). It was Moses’ connection to God (Spirit) that brought a change to Miriam’s soul, which in turn healed her body.

This was the understanding in the Early Church as well. One of the Early Church Fathers, Clement of Alexandria, stated,

“As is true of most illnesses, the cure for pride must be diagnosed. Then, the type of treatment must be ascertained. Finally, the soul must be disciplined to prevent pride from developing again. When a soul is perverted by unnatural teachings, it’s like a diseased eye. Because it cannot clearly see the light of truth, it overlooks the obvious.” (2)

In general, the patterns of behavior, eating, sleeping, exercising, smoking, excessive alcohol, use of illegal drugs, etc. has many variables, but is primarily influenced by how one thinks or believes. The belief system one has can lead to addictive patterns, good or bad. What was it in Christ that allowed Him to heal the sick, raise the dead and cast out demons?  It is the same thing being offered to us and Jesus said we would do even greater works (ref John 14:12). So, if you’re broken in spirit, soul or body, trust Christ in you to make it straight.

Blessings, Shalom
